Teen Writer & Actor Workshops

Digital Media Program


NEW! TEEN WRITER & ACTOR WORKSHOPS

A unique opportunity for students to write, act and learn from the pros.

Beginning in January, Arts Ed at The Granada introduces a new creative outlet for aspiring young artists. The Teen Writer & Actor Workshops were designed to give participants the rare opportunity to learn how to both write and act for the stage and screen. In addition, the four workshops will be taught by award-winning pros with credits on Broadway, HBO and more.

Teen Writer & Actor Workshops

All workshops will be held Sunday afternoons at the Boys & Girls Club in Santa Barbara. The cost is $125 per 8-hour workshop. Students may sign up for two or more and receive $25 off each workshop.

WORKSHOP 1: Writing and acting the personal monologue
January 24 & 31, 12-4pm
Instructors: Cheri & Kit Steinkellner
Students will analyze character and text, rehearse and perform monologues.

WORKSHOP 2: Writing and acting the two character scene
February 21 & 28, 12-4pm
Instructors: Cheri & Kit Steinkellner
Students will analyze, block, rehearse and perform scenes.

WORKSHOP 3: Writing and acting for comedy
March 21 & 28, 12-4pm
Instructors: John Bauman & Charles Dougherty
Students learn timing and content, and how to connect with the audience.

WORKSHOP 4: Writing and acting for drama
April 18 & 25, 12-4pm
Instructors: John Bauman & Charles Dougherty
Students learn conflict, basic themes and the collaborative process.

Instructors
Cheri Steinkellner: 4-time Emmy Award winning writer, 2 Golden Globes, 2 People's Choice Awards, Writers Guild Award, Parent's Choice Award for Best Animation, 2 British Academy Awards, Current nominee for London's What's On Stage Award. Put up last summer's local teen hit, Rent.

Kit Steinkellner: A graduate of UCLA, Kit has received playwriting and screenwriting honors, winning at the American College Theater Festival, and having her plays produced at the Kennedy Center, the Old Globe, and Off-Broadway to name a few.

John Bauman: LA based actor, acting coach, entertainment agent and manager representing actors, writers, directors and producers, John has current projects at HBO, Starz and Comedy Central.

Charles Dougherty: Acting for over 30 years in television series, commercials, movies and Off Broadway, Charles has taught acting at George Washington University, Pepperdine, Florida State and UC Berkley.

 


Teen Project: Digital Media Program

This program focuses on “at risk youth” and includes teens exploring their community while documenting their experiences. They may be visiting a senior center, local non-profit agency, area business or government offices. Through this experience they may gain new knowledge, explore potential career options or learn how to contribute to their community in ways they hadn’t thought of previously. Skills include shooting video, writing, editing, screening and promoting their final productions. This program has many generous collaborators including Easy Lift Transportation Services and Instructional Media Services at the County Education Office.
