The Granada Music & Arts Conservatory
The 2007-2008 Adventure Begins!

The new Granada Music & Arts Conservatory is dedicated to inspiring growth and creativity in young people. Our teachers are working professionals who provide each student with an intensive program in every subject. Conservatory Founder and Co-Director, Lana Bodnar, works with each student to tailor course work that provides a well-rounded education in all of the arts, with plenty of time to focus on their passions and talents.

Our Conservatory is a safe place to celebrate art and artistic tradition as an expression of humanity. Each student's curriculum is enriched by retreats, master classes at The Granada, workshops, mentoring and solo performances. Thorough professionalism, teamwork and discipline are hallmarks of this experience.

Class Descriptions

First Forum
Students start the day with history and appreciation of Film, Art, Theatre and Music. Lectures are followed by an open forum where students engage in critical discussion and debate. Following the Forum, students attend two more classes. Some classes rotate every 6-10 weeks.

Music
Music classes have been the cornerstone of the Music & Arts Conservatory since it was founded in 1989. Musicians study Solfege (ear training), Chamber Music Ensemble, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Music Theory and, of course, their major instrument.

Theatre
Our expanded program for actors includes the study of theatre through improvisation, monologue, scene work and techniques of acting.

Poetry / Creative Writing
Fostering a love for the written word and encouraging an ability to communicate, writers study poetry and creative writing that includes scripts for stage and screen.

Visual Art
Beginning and advanced drawing and painting build a foundation for artists to move into design in graphic arts, stage lighting and costume design. High school credit may be available.

Film & Video
New this year is a course in film history and video production for the young filmmaker. Utilizing The Granada's video studio in Santa Barbara, students can learn the latest digital technologies in camera, sound and editing.
