Only a Grinch could “hate, hate, hate, double hate, loathe entirely” the Pay-it-Forward social media campaign The Granda Theatre has created to celebrate the season and the release of the 25th Anniversary edition of Jim Carey’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
“Last year was our first screening of a family-friendly holiday movie, and we wanted to keep that tradition going,” said Drew Davis, Associate Director of Development at The Granada. “We chose The Grinch and just like his heart grows three sizes, we wanted to help other people’s hearts grow, which is how the Pay-it-Forward campaign came about.”
Week-Long Scavenger Hunt
From November 20 to 24th, downtown Santa Barbara transforms into Whoville as local Whos join The Granada’s scavenger hunt for vouchers to the Dec. 12th screening of How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
“Each day, we’re partnering with a local family-friendly business or organization, and with The Grinch providing clues on our Instagram (@granadasb) and Facebook accounts, you’ll have all the hints you need to find where the movie vouchers are hidden,” explained Ashley Dawson, Director of Marketing & Database Services at The Granada.
Once you solve the mystery of where the vouchers are hidden each day, simply head to the right business to claim your prize of two tickets to the movie, take a picture of yourself relishing in sweet victory, and tag The Granada when you post your winning shot.
Oh, the Who-manity!
For anyone looking to grow their heart three sizes, vouchers for two tickets to the movie screening go on sale on November 20th (available while supplies last). It’s a perfect gift for all the Cindy Lous in your life, or even a Grinch who needs their heart melted a little bit this holiday season.
The movie starts at 6 p.m. on December 12th, but beginning an hour earlier, The Granada will host family-friendly activities featuring arts and crafts, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and hopefully The Grinch will be lured down from his home on Mount Crumpit when he learns of the Whobilation happening at The Granada!
Everyone is encouraged to come to the show dressed in their best comfy PJs or most spirited sweaters.
Other Holiday Entertainment at The Granada
In addition to featuring How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Granada helps families celebrate the holidays with several other traditional, seasonal shows.
The 21st annual Westmont Christmas Festival takes center stage Dec 6 and 7. This year’s theme is “Christ the Redeemer,” told through the voices of the Westmont Orchestra, College Choir, and Chamber Singers.
On Dec. 14th, The Grace Fisher Foundation presents the 8th annual Winter Music Showcase. The variety-style show features a range of performances from orchestral works to bands, choirs, dancers, and more, celebrating the season.
State Street Ballet presents the timeless classic The Nutcracker from Dec. 19-21. Featuring over 100 dancers, the show is a perennial family favorite.
Close out the year with New Year’s Eve with the Santa Barbara Symphony. This glamorous New Year’s tradition features guest conductor Stuart Malina leading the orchestra through a playlist of Broadway favorites and Hollywood hits.
The Granada invites you to let your heart grow three sizes this holiday season. After all, the best gifts are the ones we share, and what better way to celebrate than with a little Grinch-mas magic?
