WE’RE CELEBRATING OUR 100TH ANNIVERSARY ALL YEAR LONG!
Throughout 2024, the Granada will present special Centennial programming – featuring outstanding performing artists across all disciplines – with a special focus on showcasing local Santa Barbara talent. Plus, we’ve made tickets for all Centennial events affordable to everyone. After all, This is Your Granada!
There was a time when Santa Barbara was at the very center of the burgeoning filmmaking industry, more prolific and influential than Hollywood and on a par with any other filmmaking locale.
From the moment it opened in 1924, The Granada played a vital role as a showcase for the increasingly popular new form of entertainment. In 1930, Warner Brothers acquired The Granada, and for the next three decades, The Granada was the host to multiple star-studded film premieres, dozens of Hollywood “sneak previews” and a showcase for first-run features.
So, with deep respect for our heritage as a Grand Movie Palace,
and in recognition and awe of the wealth of talent we have in our midst,
The Granada is proud to present Santa Barbara Home Movies.
We’ve got some very special “home movies” lined up and we’ve invited some of the creators – our “homies” – to join us on stage to talk about their films.
We’re planning more Santa Barbara Home Movies over the course of the year.
We are truly excited to continue The Granada’s heritage as a celebrated movie palace in a very personal, very Santa Barbara way.
After all,
This is Your Granada.
First up in our Santa Barbara Home Movies series…
Starring Andy Garcia and Alan Arkin.
Directed by renowned filmmaker Andrew Davis (The Fugitive, Holes, Under Siege)
Steal Big, Steal Little Is set right here in Santa Barbara. It begins with the Solstice Parade down State Street – not a restaging, the actual Solstice Parade. You’ll recognize lots of Santa Barbara locations and maybe even some familiar faces. It’s a Santa Barbara Home Movie in every sense of the word.
Ruben and Robby are twin brothers from Mexico, adopted by Mona, one of the wealthiest – and most eccentric – women in Santa Barbara. Ruben is devoted to Mona, but Robby is more devoted to her money. When Mona leaves her fortune and estate to Ruben it starts a battle between brothers that soon leads to madness, mayhem, and even attempted murder.
But whether they’re stealing big or stealing little, they’re all stealing in this hilarious comedy about greed, power… and brotherly love.
Plus, a conversation with director Andy Davis and actor Andy Garcia.
Don’t miss the rest of our Santa Barbara Home Movies featuring more classics from Andrew Davis and our Zemeckis Family Film series!
